December’s heavy rains have washed away much of the path leading to Slaughterhouse Beach. While the path is still passable, we suggest that if you’re not sure-footed you skip this beach for now.

Also a reminder that the beaches on this end of Maui can see some pretty rough surf this time of year. While we were at the beach a man came down with his snorkeling stuff. He stood there a few minutes watching the waves and decided to leave. A wise choice.

Located just past the mile marker 32 on hwy 30 past Kapalua, Slaughterhouse beach is popular with visitors. It’s about the length of a football field and 50 to 75 feet wide in most places. Because of the cliff face behind the beach there’s no sun until mid to late morning.
