The Whales Are Back!
A Maui tour boat operator has reported the first humpback whale sighting of the season.
The whale was sighted breaching between Lanai and Molokai on October 7 by the 52 foot Lanakila, owned by Safari Boat Excursions.
An estimated 7000 to 9000 whales visit Maui’s waters each year migrating from Alaskan waters to calve and mate. Official whale watching season extends from December 15 through May 15. Peak season is January through March.
The annual spectacle draws tens of thousands of visitors to Maui each year.
