Hawaiian Hotdog Surprise
Spam is king in Hawaii. Here’s an adaptation of an old family Spam favorite in our house. In the 1960’s if it was Saturday night, we were watching “Perry Mason” and eating Hot dog Surprise. Mmmm….
Makes 8 Servings
Ingredients
1 - 12 oz. can original or low sodium Spam coarsely grated
1 1/2 - Cups Velveeta cheese coarsely grated
1 - Cup mayonnaise
2 - Medium dill pickles diced
1/3 cup - Maui onion diced
8 - Hot dog buns
Combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl
Fill hot dog buns with Spam mixture
In the center of a sheet of aluminum foil about 2 feet long place 4 buns with Spam mixture side by side so that they are touching. Stack the remaining 4 buns on top of the first four
Wrap the buns in the foil so that they are completely enclosed
Bake at 350 deg for 35 minutes
Fold back top of foil to expose buns and bake an additional 10 minutes to crisp buns
Serve with potato chips or potato salad and 2 scoops of rice. It’s the islands you know.
Enjoy
